Venkatrangan

Lieutenant Commander Venkatrangan is chief engineer on the USS Mumbai—thus commanding officer of Root and the gang.

The iron ring on his right little finger is a Canadian tradition.

He is inordinately proud of his moustache. I am not sure whether it is him deviating from regulations slightly or is proof if any were needed that Starfleet is not in fact the US Navy.
